There are two programs associated with the .thb file extension, KinuPix and Hijack Clipart. KinuPix Lite and Standard Edition II are Windows only programs used to create multimedia slideshows for photographs an images. The projects can incorporate music in a variety of formats, as well as export finished projects as .exe, .avi, or .html files. KinuPix uses the .thb file extension for its skin files. As with any skinnable software, these files contain the information and images that control what the user interface looks. They do not affect the operation of the software in any way.

KinuPix developers are currently working on a web based application that site owners can employ on their own web sites. Skins for the web application are assumed to be .thb files but that's not known for sure. The company creates the skins for the site owner then provides the code in the from of a URL. The site owner wold have no knowledge of whether or not a .thb file was used.

Due to the nature of these files, errors will be rare. The most common error to be expected involves corrupted data that does not allow the skin to render properly. In this case the program may resort to the default skin, use the style and theme of the operating system, or fail to load completely. If users have problems with a downloaded skin, simply deleting it from the hard drive should clear things up. KinuPix states on their website that different versions of the software cannot use every available skin. Care should be taken to download and install only those files that are compatible with the current software version. Downloaded skins will be part of a self-extracting .exe file rather than individual .thb files. Installation requires nothing more than a double click of the file, and Windows will extract the .thb files and put the in the proper place.
XnViewer is a graphics viewing program that supports the .thb format. XnViewer includes some limited filters and editing features but how these could be applied to the .thb skin is not known. Attempting to apply the filters to a KinuPix theme could cause damage to it. Making a backup copy before editing is always a good idea. Another program that can access .thb files is Graphic Converter 2003 which claims to open 382 image formats including .thb, and convert to 27 of the most popular formats.
The second associated program, Hijaak Digital Photo Studio from IMSI, uses the .thb file extension for its thumbnail preview files. These files are smaller versions of originals in both size and resolution and are generally not saved for any future use. They could be re-sized as a larger image but the resolution would degrade as the image was made bigger. It is therefore recommended that these .thb files not be used for anything else. In the case where a .thb image was vitally important and the only copy a user possessed, it could be converted to an .eps before being re-sized as an .eps file can be enlarged a great deal before resolution degradation occurs.
Errors with Hijaak .thb files should be virtually non-existent. The software will read the original file and automatically produce the thumbnail version and place it in the cache. If the original file is corrupted Hijaak may not be able to create a thumbnail but that isn't an error with the .thb. In the unlikely event that Hijaak does create a faulty thumbnail, the entire folder can be deleted without harm. The next restart will force Hijaak to recreate new thumbnails for any pictures saved in the software.
